How is stroke treated?

Most strokes are caused by a blood clot that blocks blood flow and oxygen to the brain. Medications that dissolve the clot and improve blood flow must be administered within three hours of having a stroke to work effectively.

In some cases, early intervention can reverse the effects of a stroke. Conversely, delayed treatment may result in the death of brain cells, which may cause serious problems with speech, cognitive ability, and basic motor skills. This is why it’s important to call an ambulance as soon as you notice the first signs and symptoms of a stroke.
