Unconditional Landing

Unconditional Landing is granted to foreign nationals, allowing them to live and work in Jamaica without the need for a visa or a work permit. It is a stamp placed in a foreign passport that permits the holder to remain in Jamaica indefinitely. This stamp must be transferred when the holder’s foreign passport expires.

For Jamaican nationals by birth traveling on a non-Jamaican passport:

• Documents Required:
  • Valid passport with at least 6 months until expiration
  • Original birth certificate
  • Original marriage certificate or Decree Absolute (if applicable)
  • Applicable fee

Descent

For applicants born overseas with at least one Jamaican parent or grandparent.

• Documents Required:
  • Valid passport with at least 6 months until expiration
  • Applicant’s original birth certificate
  • Jamaican parent’s/grandparent’s original birth certificate, Machine readable Jamaican passport, or original citizenship certificate
  • Jamaican parent’s/grandparent’s original marriage certificate or Decree Absolute (if applicable)

Permanent Residence

This status allows a foreign national to live and work in Jamaica without restrictions on their stay, and without the need for a work permit or Jamaican citizenship. However, Permanent Residents do not have the same constitutional rights as Jamaican citizens.

• Application Process:
  • Applicants will be interviewed by the Agency’s Investigation and Surveillance Unit.
  • Applications are typically processed within 3 to 6 months, and all submitted documents must be originals.

Categories for Permanent Residence Application:

• Employment: For foreign nationals who have worked in Jamaica for more than 3 years.
• Retirement: For retired foreign nationals who wish to reside in Jamaica.
• Marriage: For foreign nationals married to a Jamaican national.
• Dependent: For foreign nationals who are dependents of a Permanent Resident holder.
• Previous holders of Unconditional Landing status by virtue of marriage to a Jamaican.
